It has been estimated that between 1st April 2017 and 31st March 2018 food banks funded by The Trussell Trust organisation distributed over 1,300,000 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis in the UK, with the majority being in the North West.
Only 12,955 tonnes of food was donated by the public.
The primary reasons behind many referrals to food banks in 2017-2018 was due to household incomes not covering the cost of essential living expenses resulting from issues with benefit changes and delays.
Since the roll out of Universal credits there has been an increase of families relying on their local food banks. With more people each day being referred, the pressure on food banks will continue to grow without the contributions and aid from the public.
#weCANmakeadifference with every piece of food donated to food banks, we are taking action against food poverty.
